My Recommendation Letter

To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing to give my highest recommendation for Sasa Buljovcic.  In the spring of 2011, Sasa was enrolled in two of my courses, “Documentary Film & Video” as well as “Film Criticism.”  With the benefit of having witnessed Sasa in two different class settings, I can personally testify to the high quality of his intelligence, drive, and ability to work well with others. 
For perspective, the two classes Sasa took with me are upper-division and notoriously difficult.  For each class, I hold students accountable for arriving on time with homework in hand.  The classes also entail a high degree of oral participation as well as a significant amount of in-class writing.  For example, the examinations require students to compose original answers to a variety of essay questions in a two-hour time period.  While many students struggle in these classes and are easily discouraged, Sasa was one of the most enthusiastic students I have ever had.  He always came to class on time and was prepared to work, demonstrating how serious he is about his schooling and his responsibilities. Sasa was also one of the very few students I could count on to lead discussions, often breaking the ice after a difficult screening.  His contributions to the class were always thoughtful, respectful, and creative.  Given that I like to pose open-ended questions, Sasa stood out to me as a student who engaged my questions directly and demonstrated an ability to think on his feet. 
In addition to these attributes, Sasa was also recognized among his peers as a leader in the classroom and as someone who was willing to help others.  His contributions were respected by his peers and his good humor made him a joy to have in class.  He also frequently reached out to me outside of class to get clarification on any assignment or to discuss his vision for his professional career.  In sum, I highly recommend Sasa as an employee and would happily affirm this over phone or email at any time.
